Griet de Geyter

Belgian soprano Griet De Geyter started her musical education at the age of seven, studying recorder, singing and piano. After she obtained her Master’s degrees in singing and recorder at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven (B), Griet continued her vocal studies in The Hague and Amsterdam (NL) at the Dutch National Opera Academy. In 2007 she obtained her Master’s degree in opera “magna cum laude” at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. At the end of her studies she was awarded the Ruim Baan Voor Talent prize by the Royal Conservatory to continue her vocal studies with Jard van Nes. She is currently being coached by Margreet Honig.

Griet has been fascinated from an early age by a variety of musical genres and the possibilities of the voice. This has led to an eclectic career that includes a wide repertoire from polyphony to contemporary in oratorio, song, chamber music and opera.

Griet specialised in vocal music from the late polyphony to the late baroque repertoire, performing various concerts with il Gardellino (Marcel Ponseele & Jan De Winne), Collegium Vocale Gent (Philippe Herreweghe), the Netherlands Bachsociety (Jos van Veldhoven), Le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Ex Tempore (Florian Heyerick) and  BachPlus (Bart Naessens). In 2014 she sang the solos on the video-recording of Bach’s Matthaüspassion with the Netherlands Bach Society for AllofBach.com

Griet’s colourful and flexible voice makes her much sought after as a soloist and ensemble singer. She works regularly with ensembles such as the Netherlands Bach Society, Il Gardellino, Collegium Vocale Gent, BachPlus, Pluto Ensemble, Bl!ndman, Zefiro Torna, Club Mediéval, Huelgas Ensemble, Oxalys, Champ d’Action and has collaborated with conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Jos van Veldhoven, Bart Naessens, Otto Tausk, Vladimir Ashkenazy, James Wood, Frank Agsteribbe, Richard Egarr, Paul Dombrecht and Paul Van Nevel.
